Silver Gilt Christening Spoon in original Leather Case

The oval bowl with tapering stem chased on each side with vines, tulips and sunflowers, the stem applied with a scroll and leaf support, marked on bowl, with fitted leather case. The leather case shows a on its upper side a dove, symbol of the Holy Spirit.
This barock silver spoon was most probably made to be offered as a christening gift.
Maker
Michael Lauffer was christened on the 27th November 1665 and became a master maker on the 14th August 1702. He got married to Barbara Maria, daughter of Magnus Rumpler. He was a known silversmith, above all for the making of cups and beakers, but also for his cutlery.
