MARKS: Pyr in a shield above an “I” in a shield for Augsburg 1749/51

MASTER: “IIA” in an oval shield for Johann Jacob Adam (Lit.s Seling 2385)

An attached handle and two holders made of leaf-like, openwork rocailles, holding a cut-decorated glass beaker

and a decorated Meissen porcelain cup.

B I O G R A P H Y: Johann Jacob Adam was born around 1720 in Memmingen; he completed his masterpiece in 1748. In 1749, he married Anna Susanna Baur, and from

1762 to 1764, he was a master of showrooms. Based on the surviving works, he seems to have specialized in trembleuses for chocolate services and plats de ménage (men’s dishes). for

The trembleuse was used in the 18th century for breakfast in bed to give the cup greater stability.
