Renaissance beaker, silver partially gilt for a German boy

Manufactured on behalf of the two parents’ families

The blank to be cast was produced in large numbers in the basic version.

These blanks were then given the finishing touches as required.

The day of birth (outside above the cross) and the godparents (below) were then entered.

A cup was given to the boy at the birth.

The coin or monogram on the base is dated inside and under the base. Outside under the crucified letter for the bride’s parents.

The monogram of the leather goods guild has been used throughout Europe since around 1500.

The person being baptized is a German boy (German inscription inside on the outer edge), whose parents worked in the leather goods industry/trade.
